Auto-Conversion Configuration
Auto-Conversion allows you to synchronize any track in your
collection to your portable device, regardless of whether or not your device
supports the format. In addition, auto-conversion can also convert tracks
to lower bitrates to make more effective use of the limited storage capacity on
a portable device. For instance, if you store your tracks in lossless
format (e.g. FLAC) you'll need to convert them to a smaller-size and
supported format when syncing to your device.
Whenever the device is Synchronized, any tracks that match a set
of auto-conversion rules specified by the user are converted on-the-fly and
synced. Several auto-conversion rules are enabled by default. Depending on
your needs, you may wish to modify them, disable them, delete them or add
new ones. To edit a rule:
- Click 'Add new auto-conversion rule', or double-click an existing
rule.
- Choose the source format (on the PC) that you wish to convert:
-'Any'
format - is useful when you simply want to convert to lower
bitrates
-'incompatible' format - is used when the format on the PC is
incompatible with the formats supported by the device
-any specific format.
- Choose the bitrates of the source format that you wish to convert.
You can choose 'Any' bitrate if you're converting from an 'incompatible'
format, or make more specific rules for specific bitrate ranges.
- Choose the format to be used on the device. The default is designed
for maximum compatibility and speed, however, more efficient and higher
quality settings are available. See: Ripping & Digital File
Formats and MP3 Encoding Settings.
- Click 'Ok' to save the rule, and then use the arrow buttons to set the
order in which the rules should be applied. Click 'Ok' to save the
Synchronization settings.
The next time tracks are synchronized, any tracks that match the rules you
created will be auto-converted.
